Databases for scholarly journal articles

In the nursing program, you have several tools you can use for research:

  • CINAHL
  • Nursing and Allied Health Complete from Proquest
  • Academic Search Premier
  • Pubmed (Medline)
Check with your instructor on whether s/he wants you to use nursing literature or other allied health literature that you can apply to nursing concerns.

CINAHL

We buy CINAHL and Academic Search Premier from the same company, Ebsco.  Each has different content, but similar searching mechanisms.  CINAHL headings are similar to the Subject Terms in Academic Search Premier.

Pubmed

Pubmed is the database for doctors.  It is a huge database, with relatively little full-text.  If you find an article you want, you may have to go to the University of Washington to get it.  We also have Docline, with which you can order articles.
