All about Community Reads

Community Reads

Started in 2013, Community Reads is a community building exercise that engages Shoreline students, faculty, and staff to read the same book and engage with the text in a constructive way. While it started out as a way to connect instructors to literature they could use across curriculum, it has expanded into a project that engages the students in a positive and thought-provoking way.

Opportunities for Leadership

Students may get involved in many ways with Community Reads providing an opportunity to build community, explore the topics of social justice, science fiction, and creative writing in an environment alternative to the classroom. CR also provides excellent resume building experience that can also be used on college transfer and scholarship applications. Frequently, extra credit is offered for attendance of Community Reads events: check with your instructor to see if they offer this.
