The Ray Howard Library's Anti-Racism Statement

The Ray Howard Library would like to express our commitment to the anti-racism at Shoreline Community College, the United States, and throughout the world. We must use our platforms and voices to demand justice, but also to raise the understanding of how inequalities manifest in our society.

We are horrified at the events that have been taking place around our country, including the killing of unarmed Black people by law enforcement, the violence perpetrated on Asian-Americans, and those participating in peaceful protests to stand in defiance of racial inequality because of the structural racism in institutions that are supposed to keep us safe. The trauma of more than 400 years of injustice and inequity reminds us that there is much work to be done.

Racism is not tolerated in the Ray Howard Library in any way, shape, or form. Our librarians actively engage in decolonizing the collection, instruction, and programming. The library is still available in its online platform, still accessible, and more than willing to spark a conversation, create a safe space, and connect you with the information you are seeking. Our mission to engage our community in literacy and learning continues.

Let us be gentle, let us support each other, let us give each other space, and let us create opportunities for learning and transformation.
