GenR—short for Generation Rescue—is a group of young, influential humanitarians in Seattle who have joined forces with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to help people survive conflict and disaster and rebuild their lives. Inspired, informed and influential, GenR members support the IRC through advocacy, networking and fundraising activities.

A snapshot of homeless youth in Seattle: Their characteristics, behaviors and beliefs about HIV protective strategies
The purpose of this study was to determine how initial HIV prevention efforts for homeless youth were received and to determine areas where homeless youth's beliefs and behaviors continue to put them at risk for HIV infection. Interviews were conducted with 289 Seattle homeless youth.

Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee Announce New Partnership to Help Children and Families Living in Crisis
Today, at the first ever World Humanitarian Summit, Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) will announce a new partnership to help children and their families living in crisis. Known for their global work with vulnerable children and communities, Sesame Workshop and the IRC will work together to develop, disseminate, and test multi-media educational resources and programs aimed at young refugees.
Compassion's wake-up call
The author discusses the tendency for people to feel compassion and empathy for single identifiable victims versus large groups. Topics include the public response to the released image of a Syrian refugee child who drowned attempting to reach Greece, the suppression of emotions such as sympathy to avoid overwhelming emotional and financial costs, and research on ways to relieve fears regarding emotional and financial costs related to large-scale crises.

UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN AND THE U.S. IMMIGRATION SYSTEM: CHALLENGES AND REFORMS
In fiscal year (FY) 2014, approximately 60,000 children with no lawful immigration status and no parent or legal guardian present or available to provide care were apprehended at or near the U.S. border and turned over to the custody of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). These unaccompanied children (UAC) were charged with violating U.S. immigration laws and were placed in deportation proceedings.

Palestinian Refugees in Syria: Before and After the Civil War
The Palestine Center in Washington, DC hosted a June 22 panel to discuss the current state of Palestinian refugees in Syria. Both panelists were born and raised in Damascus' Yarmouk refugee camp: Nidal Bitari founded the Palestinian Association of Human Rights in Syria, and Wesam Sabaaneh is founder and director of the Jafra Foundation, which focuses on the youth and development in Palestinian refugee camps in Syria, Lebanon and Turkey.

In an interview, Holy Land Foundation (HLF) CEO Ghassan Elashi talked about his job at HLF. Elashi said that As CEO, he was in charge of the implementation of our operations not only in Palestine, but also worldwide. He traveled around to assess, evaluate and improve our services. He met with the refugees. He carried the little orphans close to my chest. He visited with the indigent families inside their rundown houses. He listened to college students and learned their frustration as well as their aspirations.
Parliamentarians Study Nexus of Youth, Refugees and Development
Held for the first time in the Arab world, an annual meeting of Asian and Arab Parliamentarians examined how regional conflicts hinder the development of effective policies to achieve sustainable development, particularly as they generate large numbers of refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants.

The UK should lead the international community in ensuring that children of all ages, exposed to appalling risks as they flee their homes, are provided with safe passage, health care, social support, and protection against exploitation, and should do the utmost to prevent separation from their families.

Global Famine

Conflicts worsen global hunger crisis
While the refugee situation in Europe has attracted many headlines, little attention has been paid to the hunger crises affecting populations in more than 28 countries around the world. Overall, more than 25 million people are projected to be acutely food insecure and in need of urgent humanitarian response, according to USAID's Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET). About a third of those are refugees or people who have been internally displaced because of conflict.
Ending mass atrocity and ending famine
On Sept 29, 2015, world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly adopted Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2--"end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture ending world hunger by 2030".
